1) Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using our website, membership offerings, event registration pages, text messaging program, or any related services (collectively, the “Services”), you agree to these Terms and Conditions (“Terms”). If you do not agree, do not use the Services.
2) Who We Are
RISE Women in Business is a nonprofit organization that provides community, education, meetups, workshops, virtual programming, and business resources exclusively for women in business.
3) Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The “Effective Date” above will reflect the most recent version. Your continued use of the Services after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
4) Privacy Policy
Our Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and share information, including for SMS communications. By using our Services, you agree to our Privacy Policy.
5) Membership, Events, and Purchases
Memberships and dues: If we offer memberships (monthly, annual, virtual, or other), the features, pricing, billing cadence, and renewal terms will be shown at checkout or in the membership description.
Events and workshops: Event details, capacity limits, pricing, and any refund or transfer rules will be disclosed on the event registration page.
Donations: Donations may be processed through third-party platforms. Donation confirmations and receipts are provided as available through the platform used.
Refunds: Unless a specific event or offering states otherwise, all payments are non-refundable except where required by law. If an event is canceled or materially changed, we may provide a refund, credit, or transfer option at our discretion.
6) Education Disclaimer
Our workshops, resources, speakers, and content are for educational and informational purposes only. We do not provide legal, tax, accounting, medical, or financial advice. You are responsible for your own business decisions and outcomes.
7) Accounts, Forms, and Accurate Information
If you create an account or submit forms, you agree to provide accurate, current information and to update it as needed. You are responsible for activity that occurs under your account.
8) Community Guidelines and Prohibited Use
You agree not to:
Violate any law or regulation.
Harass, threaten, defame, or discriminate against others.
Post or transmit content that is unlawful, harmful, deceptive, or infringing.
Attempt to access non-public systems, scrape data, or interfere with site security.
Use the Services to send unsolicited messages or promotions.
We may suspend or terminate access if we believe you violated these Terms.
9) Intellectual Property
All content on our website and in our materials (text, logos, graphics, videos, downloads, templates, workshop materials) is owned by RISE or used with permission and is protected by intellectual property laws. You may not copy, sell, distribute, or create derivative works without our written consent.
10) User Content and Permissions
If you submit content (comments, testimonials, photos, videos, or other materials), you grant RISE a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to use, display, reproduce, and share that content for nonprofit and promotional purposes, unless you clearly request otherwise in writing.
11) Photo and Video Release at Events
By attending a RISE event (in person or virtual), you understand that photos, audio, and video may be captured. You grant RISE permission to use your likeness and voice in event recaps, marketing, social media, and promotional materials. If you prefer not to be recorded, notify us at check-in or email us in advance at [email protected] and we will make reasonable efforts to accommodate.
12) Third-Party Services and Links
Our Services may link to third-party sites (event ticketing, donation tools, payment processors, email or SMS providers, social media). We are not responsible for third-party content, privacy practices, or services.
13) Text Message Program Terms (SMS)
If you opt in to receive text messages from RISE, the following applies.
a) Program description and message types
You may receive texts about:
Event reminders and registration updates
Membership updates and community announcements
Workshops and virtual programming
Fundraising or donation opportunities (if applicable)
b) Consent and opt-in
By opting in, you authorize RISE to send recurring text messages to the mobile number you provided. Consent must be specific to RISE and is not transferable.
For marketing or promotional texts, we will obtain consent consistent with “prior express written consent” standards, including clear disclosure that consent is not required as a condition of purchase.
c) Message frequency
Message frequency varies. Typical frequency: up to 12 messages per month. CTIA best practices recommend disclosing that messages are recurring and stating frequency.
d) Fees
Message and data rates may apply.
e) Opt-out
Reply STOP to cancel at any time. After you opt out, you will receive one final confirmation message and then no further messages will be sent (unless you re-opt-in).
We also honor common opt-out keywords such as STOP, END, CANCEL, UNSUBSCRIBE, or QUIT.
f) Help
Reply HELP for help or contact us at [email protected]. CTIA best practices require clear customer care contact info and help instructions.
g) Supported carriers and delivery
Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
h) Eligibility
You must be the authorized user of the mobile number you enroll, and you must be at least 18 years old (or have a parent/guardian’s consent).
14) Disclaimer of Warranties
The Services are provided “as is” and “as available.” We do not guarantee uninterrupted, error-free, or secure operation.
15) Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, RISE will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Services. Our total liability for any claim will not exceed the amount you paid to RISE for the specific paid Service giving rise to the claim (or $100 if you paid nothing), to the extent permitted by law.
16) Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless RISE and its directors, officers, volunteers, contractors, and affiliates from claims arising out of your misuse of the Services, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any rights of another.
17) Governing Law and Venue
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict of law rules. Any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Sacramento County, California, unless a different process is required by law.
